A different tour for those who would like to discover the high byzantine era in Athens and some of the most important monuments of the city. During the 11th and the 12th century the byzantine art and architecture flourished in the city of Athens, giving us substantial examples of this flourish. We will meet this art, visiting carefully restored and renovated medieval byzantine churches, preserved in the historical center of the city, walking for 2,5 hours in the most picturesque streets, under the shade of Acropolis. Cufic ornaments, the unique Athenian domes, the incorporated ancient sculptures (spolia) on the walls and the evocative internal spaces are some of the elements that characterize these fairy tale byzantine churches, forming simultaneously an extended real open air museum.
The tour is ideal for those who want to meet the byzantine art and architecture in Athens, walking in an open air museum in the historical center, visiting medieval churches that are considered as some of the most important monuments of the city.
